Licensing

Liquor and Gaming Licensing and those businesses retailing to the leisure industry have, during the last few years, seen many changes. None more so than in legislation affecting the sale of liquor, food retail and health and safety.

To keep abreast of these changes for our clients in these sectors of industry, we have developed skills throughout our practice to meet their commercial needs and to ensure the quality of service and response that they require.

If you are proposing to buy a property or business which involves selling alcoholic liquor or involves public music or dancing, gaming or other types of licence you must check very carefully to ensure that the licence concerned covers the part of the property that you think it covers. Also that it is not subject to conditions or hours that are unsatisfactory. It is always essential to inspect the original licence in this respect.

It is also important where the premises comprise more than one room to establish exactly what part of the premises are licensed. Did you know, for example, that if premises are licensed for the sale of intoxicating liquor on the premises no alterations may be made without the magistrates previously giving consent. The magistrates have no power to grant permission after alterations have been carried out and if there have been unauthorised alterations it may mean applying for an entirely new licence with all that entails.

These requirements are met through our Licensing Unit which deals with; all aspects of liquor and gaming licensing including preparation of applications for interim authorities, protection orders and transfers; dealing with all aspects of applications for new licenses whether on or off, whether for public houses, restaurants, night clubs, bingo clubs, cinemas or fuel stations.

Additionally we handle Public Entertainment and Cinema licence applications to the appropriate authorities.
